Vinyl Wetting Solution

If you re doing a wet application with an acrylic adhesive vinyl you should be prepared to wait a while before removing the transfer tape.

The adhesive won t wet out or bond with the substrate as quickly as usual. Because a mixture consisting only of 1 3 isopropyl alcohol 99 9 and 2 3 distilled water will not penetrate the vinyl grooves well enough. Not only will it control the exact dosage of preparations like wetting agent it ensures you administer the correct amount of cleaning fluid to the record surface. It may take 30 minutes or more for the vinyl to set before the tape can be removed.

There s no magical solution. Wetting agent reduces the surface tension of water. In my opinion there s only one secret ingredient a wetting agent called ilford ilfotol. The wet method involves making a soap solution using a mixture of dish soap and water to get both the application surface and the adhesive side of the decal wet before applying the decal.
